Marijuana empress Nancy Botwin has turned herself over to the fuzz: Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker is in negotiations to join the cast of R.I.P.D., a film based on Peter Lenkov’s graphic novel that chronicles “a cop killed in the line of duty (Ryan Reynolds) who is recruited by a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department.” She’ll a play woman who oversees the division. Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, and Jeff Bridges — a dude who single-handedly doubles this movie’s marijuana cred — co-star. What other pot icons will director Robert Schwentke (Schwentke!) cast next? I vote for Cheech Marin as the voice of a talking K9. [Variety]

Today on indieWIRE: 'The Descendants,' Anne Hathaway, John Sayles and More
Today on indieWIRE, 'The Descendants' earned itself a spot on the New York Film Festival's lineup, Anna Hathaway showed off her rapping skills, and much more. San Sebastian Festival Adds International Titles to New Directors Section: The world premiere of Kim Ki-duk's 'Amen,' along with Oren Moverman's 'Rampart,' round out the 59th San Sebastian Film Festival's competition section in additions made Wednesday. Also joining the festival's Zabaltegi-Pearls section are titles from Steve McQueen, Johnnie To and Nicolas Provost. In My Own Words: Jeff Warrick Shares a Scene From 'Programming the Nation?': Over seven years ago when I first decided to do a documentary on the alleged history of subliminal messaging in America, it's important to note that I first approached the subject matter with a bit of skepticism. Anne Hathaway: A Shockingly Adequate Rapper: Don't worry, she still retains adorability and even a dose of her Oscar-hosting cheekiness. In response to being hounded by the paparazzi after the announcement of her prowling role in 'The Dark Knight Rises,' the 'Love and Other Drugs' and 'One Day' star rapped about her relationship with the camera-toting set on 'Conan' Tuesday night. REVIEW | Anne Hathaway's Fake Accent Isn't the Only Thing Wrong With 'One Day': Anne Hathaway's faux British accent might be the first obvious conceit in 'One Day,' but not its most cumbersome. That distinction belongs to the eponymous structure, a claustrophobic device that follows a pair of best friends over the course of a 22-year period, but only on many versions of July 15. What You Are About to Read Is True: We Interview the Anonymous Creator of 'Story Notes From Hell': 'Story Notes From Hell' sounds like it could be any struggling screenwriter's snarky and solipsistic blog, but it's something much better. It's a collection of real-life excerpts and dialogue collected by an anonymous screenwriter. And it's an addictive delight. Alexander Payne's 'Descendants' to Close 49th New York Film Festival; Main Slate Unveiled: Alexander Payne's 'The Descendants' will close the 49th edition of the New York Film Festival, taking place Sept. 30-Oct. 16, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, which organizes the annual event, said Wednesday. Carl Colby's Doc About His CIA Spy Father Gets Picked Up by First Run: The new film from Carl Colby, whose credits include 'Legends in Light,''Voyager: The Grand Tour' and 'Ground Zero,' will have his next film, a documentary about his CIA spy father, released in New York at the Lincoln Plaza Cinema courtesy of First Run Features. New Look at Matt Damon & Scarlett Johansson In Cameron Crowe's 'We Bought a Zoo': So, both Venice and TIFF have unveiled their slates and ... Cameron Crowe's 'We Bought a Zoo' is nowhere to be seen. Viola Davis Goes Big Time: Viola Davis, fresh off her great and potential Oscar-nominated performance in 'The Help,' is taking her "klout" score to the bank as she should. REVIEW | Why 'Amigo' is a Blueprint for the Work of John Sayles: From the structure of his screenplays to the fluidity of his working-class themes, the cinema of John Sayles is always clean. Unfortunately, that assessment doesn't always apply to the quality of his work.

Mike Myers not confirmed for Austin Forces 4?
Unlike previous reviews, it appears that Mike Myers has not formally signed on for Austin Forces 4 at this time.Subsequent earlier news that Austin Forces 4 was certainly within the pipeline, Deadline are confirming the recent news originates as something of the surprise for any skeptical New Line.Myers has apparently only taken care of immediately an Austin Forces offer that the organization designed to him several months ago, but to date he's only expressed interest and discussions continue to be going ahead. In 2008, it had been suggested that Austin 4 would target the relationship between Dr Evil and the boy Scotty (Seth Eco-friendly) but following the Love Guru flopped in movie theaters, Myers disappeared in the giant screen (besides a cameo in Inglourious Basterds) and also the project was dropped. It is a puzzle if the Austin Forces 4 that's presently being talked about uses exactly the same plot, or whether Myers has new plans for that shagadelic spy.Regardless, returning a franchise that's been absent for this type of very long time is a huge risk for both sides.

'Sesame Street' Producers: Bert & Ernie Are Not Gay
In the grand tradition of the Tinky Winky Teletuby who was constantly dogged by speculation that he is gay, fellow pre-school characters Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street too have been battling rumors that they're a closeted gay couple. The chatter picked up tremendously in the past few weeks with online petitions asking for the two roommates to get married, prompting the producers of the PBS children's series to issue the following very awkward statement: Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as mostSesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.
